Cooker Rice

The rice cooker is a household appliance used every day in thousands of homes. This pot has been one of the best inventions for a working woman, who after a whole day in the office returns home. Only exceeded in usability with the pressure cooker that shows a greater number of functions. This pot is enough to touch a key to cook rice, food that is consumed in large quantities every day.

Using a rice cooker is very simple and you can effectively cook rice. Many rice cookers usually keep it warm after being cooked. It will not be necessary to be aware of the pot because this appliance has an automatic timer that triggers when the rice is ready. Undoubtedly this appliance is the blessing inside the home.

Some years ago cooking rice was a process that required great attention to ensure that it had an adequate preparation. The rice cookers arrived to simplify and automate cooking time and heat. In this way the quality of life of the daily kitchen was increased.

Normally a rice cooker has an outer cover and inside the cooker is placed. Endowed with a ceramic resistance that generates a very strong heat neither to burn nor soft, it is the ideal for the perfect rice. This equipment has a thermostat that controls the cooking time. The cooker for cooking usually has marks to indicate the amounts of food.

This appliance has evolved to such an extent that there are production ranges. In the beginning these were very simple and usually mechanical or with simple electronics. Today we can see high-end microprocessors that control the cooking process. Sometimes they also include a timer where you can specify the end time you want.

I include the most revolutionary models already left behind the ceramic resistances. They are equipped with induction technology. Many of these can keep the rice hot the whole day and without burning it.

Usually the rice cookers bring a measuring cup, and a plastic paddle to serve the cooked rice. They also usually bring other accessories such as extra lamb with holes in the bottom for preparations to the water bath.

Types of rice cookers

The most common and used are the rice and are those that we describe in this article. These as its name indicates depend on the electric power. They have excellent precision and cook with remarkable speed.

There are also rice dishes for microwave ovens. This is a container that has the characteristics to cook inside this type of ovens.

Another type of rice cooker that is revolutionizing this appliance are those of induction. These being powered by current do not have electrical resistances but operate under the principle of electromagnetic induction.

Parts of an electric rice cooker

A rice cooker is a simple equipment, but it does not stop having that irreplaceable value in our kitchen. Its parts and components are:

Power cable, with which the electrical fluid is delivered to the device. This cable has the necessary coating and gauge to avoid heating that could cause accidents.

The thermal fuse, is classic operation of traditional fuses. Its function is to prevent high voltages from damaging it.

The base or support, in it is placed the cooking cauldron. It is the body of the pot.

The thermostat is the main agent in the cooking process. He is responsible for ensuring the correct temperature for cooking the rice.

Another element is the switch with the circuit closed, that is, we connect the main resistance and the thermostat. In other words, it turns the pot on or off.

The resistance or also known as heat disk. This usually has a power of about 1000 W, enough to do its job.

Bowl or cooker, this is where we put the rice and other ingredients to be cooked.

For the operation and cooking of the rice the rice cookers count inside the ceramic with two resistances. One to cook with a power much greater than the other to keep warm what is already cooked.

We just have to press the button and the resistance starts to heat up. When the rice is close to cooking, the pot shoots up and the process culminates with the heat that stores the resistance.

In every moment, whether cooking or heating, you will be informed. It can vary in the different models but the most common have two thermal fissures that adjust the temperature in addition to indicating the state of the pot.

Way of preparation of rice

To prepare the rice you do not have to pass a school, because the pots do practically everything. Rice and water measures are poured, cooking is pressed and ready, we just have to wait.

It must be borne in mind that depending on the type of rice to be cooked, different measures of water are used. To be sure of how much water to pour look at the indications of the bag of rice. In most rice packed in bags you have the instructions to cook it.

Washing the rice is dependent on each one. Many people like to wash rice to remove possible residues of pesticides and herbicides used in the growing stage. In the rice milling some machines break the grains and starch is released, which is not washed, the rice usually sticks. If you decide to wash the rice put water in the container where you have the rice, rub them gently and vote the water do this two or three or until the water is clear after the process.

Keep in mind that the white rice that is commercialized is usually enriched with vitamins, iron and a series of minerals.  that if you wash it you would be voting all those nutrients.

Once the lid is closed and the cooking cycle is activated, the rice cooker does the rest. The more sophisticated models give a countdown in minutes for completion, or whistle when they finish. Many people prefer to soak the rice for a while before cooking, and others prefer to let it rest after cooking and before eating. The higher range models allow to program the soaking and resting periods.

Advantages and disadvantages of electric rice cooker

Their advantages most significant:

With a quick preparation and an exquisite cleaning.

  •         Electrical equipment very easy to use.
  •         It can be used for other dishes
  •         Steam cooking
  •         It is economical and very useful
  •         Simple technology, which makes it difficult to break.

The dis-advantages main are:

The interior cooker does not have handles so you have to wear protective gloves.

In small kitchens it becomes a little complicated to find space.

Tips to buy electric rice cooker

First we have to see its capacity of the pot. All part of how many people are at home, hence it comes out that you really need.

Size is a subject that is very much related to capacity. Always see what space we have in the kitchen so we do not miss when buying.

Providing the pot is perhaps some of the most important thing. The most modern ones only need to press a botton and the rest is to wait for a tasty rice.

The price is something that although different models have the same benefits the money differs between both. Sometimes the marks of the pot have a weight in this.

Something to keep in mind if we want our pot to accompany us for a long period of time is to see its manufacture. The surface must be stainless steel to prevent corrosion.

Check the pot to buy is easy to clean. Otherwise after each use will be complicated in this work.

The modern models have automatic shutdown and thus there will be no burnt rice in the kitchen, because the pot itself will turn off at the right time to prevent this from happening.

Consumption of an electric rice cooker

Consumption is not much to say. An  electric rice cooker consumes between 800 and 1000 W.In comparison with other appliances, it does not consume much, but it is one of the most consumed equipment at home. Its almost daily use makes it a great consumer of electrical energy.

The electric pots implement the European energy labeling system. This labeling is a denomination of letters that each represents its energy efficiency. The letters range from A to D, where the letter A is the best performance in terms of energy savings and the letter D is the worst result in this regard. Within the A label are A +, A ++, and A +++. These signs of more mean better performance in saving energy, so if our pot has A ++ it will have more electrical savings than one with labeling A.

Important safety precautions

  • Read the instructions carefully before use.
  • Being on duty, everything is hot, do not touch it.
  • It is an electrical equipment, therefore avoid contacts of the pot with water or liquids.
  • Remove the appliance from the mains when not in use and before cleaning. Let the pot cool completely before adding or removing food.
  • If the cable is damaged, do not handle the pot. Do not do it either if for some reason this is not giving the expected results.
  • Do not repair the equipment yourself, always take it to a repair shop.
  • Never pour water or any type of liquid into the outer pot.
  • Never connect the power cord without the rice cooker having the internal pad placed. Always connect the power cable first to the rice cooker, then to the power grid.
  • D0n’t use accessories that are not recommended by the manufacturer. Otherwise, it could cause accidents.
  • Do not use the pot in the open.
  • Do not let the power cord get tangled or come in contact with hot areas that could damage it.
  • Don’t locate the rice cooker near gas hobs or electric burners.
  • Always remove it from the current after use. Your rice cooker will stay on unless it is unplugged.
  • The connectors of these pots are polarized (One of the legs is wider than the other). To avoid dangerous electric shock, this connector was designed to fit in one outlet only. If the connector does not fit properly in the outlet, turn the connector over
  • Never attempt to change the shape of the connector.
  • This appliance is of an explosive design for home use.

In the process of maintenance and care of the rice cooker, cleaning is essential.

  • For a correct cleaning remove the inner pot and the lid of your rice cooker and wash them in hot water and detergent. Rinse everything, then dry with a clean, dry cloth. Only scrub the inside cooker the rest can not have contact with water.
  • When necessary, you can scrub the outside of the rice cooker with a clean, damp cloth or a medium-strength dish detergent.

Never use any type of abrasive cleaner. Metal tools or metal sponges do not use them to scrub the outer part or the entire aesthetic will be damaged. And finally never for any reason you expose your rice cooker to the water, you would cause electric shorts.

Rice cookers have evolved a lot in recent times. They have been automated more and even there are programs. The colors and shapes make it look with an appropriate aesthetic for each home. There is only one aspect that has remained untouchable over the years. Is that the rice cookers have a single purpose, make your life much easier. You already have the arguments now, the decision is yours alone.
